Ash Wednesday service

St. Peter's UMC, Saylorsburg, will hold its Ash Wednesday service at 7:30 p.m. at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, the service will also be held at 7:30 p.m. and it will include the sacrament of Holy Communion with the imposition of ashes.

Rotary speaker

West End Rotary Club will host Karl Helmond, M.D. from Mahoning Valley Orthopedics, at its Thursday, March 10, breakfast meeting. The club meets at 7:30 a.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

Board of education

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 10, in the district office in Brodheadsville.

Tai Chi demo set

A free Tai Chi demonstration with Master Vincent Walsh will be held from 4-5:30 p.m., Saturday, March 12, at the Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville.

The gentle movements of Tai Chi reduces stress and promotes overall physical health.

The demonstration class is open to all ages, but to participate one is asked to call (570) 992-9733 to register.

Methodist Women

Effort United Methodist Women will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, March 14, in Wesley Hall.

The group will be making baskets for the upcoming church mission outreach auction. Devotions will be led by Dee Juris, who along with Kay Charbonnier will be the hostesses.

Colorectal screening

Registration for free colorectal screening at Pocono Medical Center for folks meeting eligibility requirements are being accepted from March 14 through March 16.

The screenings will be held on March 26, at 6 p.m., at the Short Procedure Unit of Pocono Medical Center.

Good news

Word has been received that Mrs. "Tucker" Irwin, formerly of Brodheadsville, has recuperated enough from her recent serious illness that she is now at home continuing with rehabilitation and therapy.

Prayer shawl ministry

The next meeting of the Prayer Shawl Ministry at Effort UMC will be at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, March 15. The group has given over 280 shawls during the past 10 months.

Mert Wolfe, director, expresses her thanks for everyone's support in keeping this ministry going.

Chestnuthill meeting

Township supervisors will hold the regular board of supervisors meeting at 7 p.m., Tuesday, March 15, at the township building on Route 715, Brodheadsville.

Quitting addictions

Jesus in the 12 Steps is a free program at McMichaels United Methodist Church, Rt. 715 and White Church Road, McMichaels, that takes place every Thursday from 7-8 p.m. It covers all addictions (smoking, overeating, drugs, swearing, alcohol, etc.) using a Bible study and question and answer time. It is led by Cindy Otto.
