State police at Frackville said an elderly driver was injured when he lost control of his vehicle on a Schuylkill County roadway. The crash occurred about 9:23 a.m. on Monday, March 7, along the Burma Road in the area of the Blythe/Ryan township line in Blythe Township.

Troopers said Joseph Sorrentino, 71, of Philadelphia, was driving a 2001 Dodge Dakota southbound when he lost control while negotiating a left curve. The pickup truck went onto the berm and hit a tree, ditch and then flipped over onto its roof, where it came to rest.

Sorrentino was flown by Medevac helicopter to the Lehigh Valley Hospital, Salisbury Township, for treatment of injuries. The truck sustained heavy damages, troopers said.

Troopers also reported investigating a one vehicle crash about 3:10 p.m. on Sunday, March 6, along Interstate 81 in Ryan Township. Troopers said Alexis T. Liverpool, 28, of Baltimore, Md., was driving a 2008 Ford Fusion southbound when she lost control during a period of heavy rain. The vehicle spun out of control, went onto the left berm and down into the median. The car then struck a small tree cuasing it to roll over. It continued in the median and came to rest on its roof facing west.

Liverpool and two female juvenile passengers, ages five and eight, were injured and taken to a Pottsville Hospital for treatment. Another juvenile passenger, age one, was not injured.

Troopers said Liverpool was cited for driving a vehicle at a (un) safe speed.
