Marian's McGowan on list of top gridders for 2012
The Pennsylvania Scholastic Football Coaches Association (PSFCA) in conjunction with the Big 33 Classic, has released its inaugural listing of top high school football prospects for the class of 2012. This list of 115 student athletes from across the state represents a cooperative effort on the part of representatives from PSFCA district directors, coaches and other functions of the association. It is the first list of its kind to be compiled exclusively by high school coaches.
Marian's Brendan McGowan, a 6-4, 280-pound two-way lineman, is the only TIMES NEWS area player on the list.
McGowan is one of 12 players from District 11 named on the inaugural list.
Other District 11 players are Dan Harding, Nazareth; Brendan Nosovich, Allentown Central Catholic; James Middleton, Easton; Adam Bridgeforth, Nazareth; Kevin Gulyas, Allentown Central Catholic; Jason Emerich, Blue Mountain; Rob Devoracek, Parkland; Andrew Harris, Whitehall; Nick Sharga, Northampton; Mike Shinkus, North Schuylkill; and Noah Raub, Allentown Central Catholic.
"No one knows better the caliber of talent associated with this class than the coaches who work with these kids day-to-day, which is why we felt strongly about endorsing this compilation," said PSFCA President Mark Schmidt. "We intend to research and release this list annually to continue to promote Pennsylvania high school football and support our players far into the future."
