Deadbeat dad caught in Monroe

Pocono Mountain Regional Police said they apprehended Herbert Lee Smith, 29, of Mount Pocono, on a warrant that had been issued against him in Kentucky for failure to pay child support in arrears of over $17,000.

Smith was taken into custody on March 16 at 12:45 a.m. after police stopped a vehicle he was driving for an equipment violation. Upon running the lience check, police learned of the warrant against Smith.

After he was taken into custody, police said they found drug paraphernalia and suspected marijuana on him, resulting in additional charges.

The man was committed to the Monroe County Correctional Facility, Snydersville.
