The spring sports season got under way Thursday when Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua both dropped boys tennis matches.

BOYS TENNIS

Jim Thorpe-Salisbury

Salisbury spoiled Jim Thorpe's opener by handing the visitors a 5-0 setback.

JT's Mitch Franko, at No. 1 singles, forced a third set, but dropped a close decision.

Alex Young (S) def. Mitch Franko 6-7 (9-7), 6-4, 10-8 (super tiebreaker); AJ Foulke (S) def. Corey Ligenza 6-3, 6-1; Casey Rollands 6-0, 6-1

DOUBLES

Kazim Rajmohamed/Henry Rothermel (S) def. Kyle Lawrence/Shane Bleicher Otto 6-1, 6-1; Andrew Saba/Zach Young (S) def. Zach Nace/Sean Parrish 6-2, 6-1

Tamaqua-Blue Mt.

Tamaqua dropped its season opener to Blue Mountain, 4-1.

Gonzalo Hernandez-Cascante recorded the only win for the Blue Raiders, rolling to a 6-0, 6-0 victory at No. 1 singles.
