Tammy Graeber recently spoke at Effort UMC about how her project, The Garden of Giving, came to be and what needs the outreach project has now, including board members, funds and other volunteers.

A PowerPoint presentation highlighted the happenings at the McMichaels garden last year, including volunteers at work planting and harvesting. Over 6,000 ears of corn were among the gifts to area food pantries and soup kitchens.

Rotary's guest

State Rep. Mike Carroll will be the guest at the West End Rotary Club's breakfast meeting Thursday, March 24 at 7:30 a.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library in Brodheadsville.

School board

Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, March 24, at the district office in Brodheadsville.

Teen Challenge

The Teen Challenge men's choir from Rehrersburg, PA will visit Mount Eaton Church, Saylorsburg, on Sunday, March 27. The men will be ministering through song and sharing their testimonies in both the 8 and 10:30 a.m. worship services.

Kindergarten registration

Pleasant Valley School District parents are reminded that kindergarten registration for the 2011-2012 school year begins Monday, March 28.

Safety Program

Ed Jones of Bright Star Home Health will present a free program at the Chestnuthill Senior Center, meeting at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, at 11:15 a.m., Wednesday, March 30.

Blood drive

The Western Pocono Lions Club will host a blood drive at the American Legion Post home in Gilbert, from 1:30-6:30 p.m., Thursday, March 31.

It is the second annual such event for the club.

Free educational fair

A free educational fair will take place from 11 a.m. to 1:30 p.m., Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, Saturday, April 2.

Door prizes for an adult and a child will be awarded.

Among the topics to be highlighted at the fair are: Protect Your Identity; Child ID PA State Police; Fire Safety, West End Fire Company, Recycling and Open Space, Chestnuthill Township and West End Park Commission; Learn How Thrivent Gives Back to the Community.

The Monroe County Chapter Board of Thrivent Financial is the event sponsor.

Free hot dogs, snacks and drinks will be offered.

And a mobile shredder unit will be on site which will benefit Kids Against Hunger.

Good results

Bernie Kozen, executive director of the West End Park & Open Space Commissions reports there were over 40 participants at the recent Tai Chi demonstration last week. Since many of the participants would like a weekly class, one has been set up for Wednesday evenings at the Chestnuthill Park in Brodheadsville, beginning April 13. Sons of Italy

The Order Sons of Italy in America West End Pocono Lodge #2725 holds its next meeting at 2 p.m., April 3, at the Chestnuthill Park Building.

Cub Pack 98

A sign up night for Cub Pack 98 will be held from 6-8 p.m., Monday, April 18, in the Pleasant Valley Elementary cafeteria.

PVHS Musical

Pleasant Valley High School's musical production of "Hello Dolly" will be presented at 7 p.m., Friday, March 25 and Saturday, March 26 and again at 2 p.m., Sunday, March 27.
