March 25, 1972 Jim Thorpe captures third place in the PIAA Class C tournament by defeating Laurel Valley, 49-42, in the consolation game at the Fram Show Building in Harrisburg. Don Herman pours in a game-high 17 points to lead the Olympians, coached by George "Chuck" Hanna. The winners also receive 12 points from George Albert while Jim Zurn and Dan Albeck each chip in with seven points.
