Traffic stops lead to drug charges

Two traffic stops made by officers of the Pocono Mountain Regional police have led to drug charges.

The first stop occurred about 5 p.m. on March 20 along SR940. Police stopped a vehicle operated by Steven Spence, 21, of East Stroudsburg, for an expired inspection sticker.

While speaking with Spence officers detected the odor of burnt marijuana coming from inside the vehicle. K9 Niko was brought to the scene and alerted officers to a controlled substance in the vheilce.

A further investigation revealed Spence was in possession of marijuana and drug paraphernalia. He was charged with those two offenses.

The second stop occurred abut 12:25 p.m. on Saturday, March 26, in the parking lot of the PenMart store in Tobyhanna. A vehicle was stopped for a motor vehicle code violation. A passenger in the vehicle was identified as Kevin Curry, 19, of Tobyhanna. He was found to have in his possession marijuana, which was located in one of his shoes, and drug paraphernalia.

Curry was placed under arrest and charged with the two drug offenses and later released.
