PV knee-hi

The Panther Valley Knee Hi will hold a meeting on Tuesday, May 10 at 8 p.m.

at the Sports Zoo in Lansford.

PV senior center

The activities for the Panther Valley Senior Center have been announced by Fran Craigie, manager. For more information call (570) 669-9930.

The center will not be open from May 3-May 13 due to the Senior Games being held.

Beginning May 16, Family Feud will be played at the center at 11 a.m. May 17 is the Mother's Day Celebration at 11 a.m. May 18 is Birthday bingo at 11 a.m. May 19 is penny game at 11 a.m. May 20 is a shopping trip at 9:30 a.m.

May 23 is the game Scattergories at 11 a.m. May 24 is Pictionary at 11 a.m. On May 25, bring in your wedding picture and there are games of pool and cards. May 26 is pay bingo at 11 a.m. May 27 is horse racing at 11 a.m.

May 30 the center is closed because of Memorial Day. May 31 there will be a Memorial Day picnic starting at 11 a.m.

Remember to sign in by 10 a.m. for the next day lunch. Exercise is every Monday, Wednesday, and Friday, at 10 a.m.

Summit Hill

St. Paul Lutheran

The schedule for St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, for Sunday, May 8, is as follows:

Sunday school class, 9 a.m. (this will be the last class until fall); and worship service, 10:30 a.m., with the Rev. Carl Schweitzer, retired pastor from Lehighton, as the guest minister.

On Tuesday, May 10, the church council will meet at 7 p.m.

On Sunday, May 15, Gary Blake will present a Temple talk for Literacy Sunday on the important effort by the DOCS committee and its presentation of books to children in our area schools. The Confirmation class will meet at 6:30 that evening.

Borough council

The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held on Monday, May 8, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. Joseph Weber, president, will be in charge of the session.

Absentee ballots

The 2011 Primary Election will be held on Tuesday, May 17, in Carbon County.

Persons wanting to vote by the absentee ballot process are reminded the deadline for applying for an absentee ballot is May 10.

Persons interested in an application can contact Billy O'Gurek Jr. or Nathan Halenar, president of the Jeffersonian Democratic Club, Summit Hill.

Legion to meet

The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, May 8, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.

A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.

Honored by Legion

Raymond B. Robertshaw, 86, Summit Hill, was honored recently by the National Headquarters of the American Legion for 50 years of continuous membership in the organization.

He was presented his recognition award by W. Kevin O'Donnell, commander of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill.

St. John's

On Wednesdays at 7 p.m. St. John's Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, holds an informal worship: a spiritual, peaceful evening service with Holy Communion. All are welcome to this relaxed, brief musical evening prayer. For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper is served at 6 p.m., followed by a brief adult Bible study and children's program at 6:30 p.m. For more information, call the Rev. Little League parade

The Little League will hold an Opening Day Parade on Saturday. May 7 beginning at 9 a.m. from the VFW. The parade will continue down Center Street to the Little League Field for the opening games.

Borough meetings

The Lansford Borough Council has announced its schedule of committee meetings for the month of May as follows:

Wednesday, May 11, council meeting, 6:30 p.m.

Monday, May 23, Public Safety Committee, 6:30 p.m.; and Public Works Committee meeting, 7:30 p.m.

Thursday, May 26, Grants Committee, 6 p.m.; Parks & Recreation Committee, 6:30 p.m.; and Community Development, Planning, Zoning and Ordinance Committee, 7:15 p.m.

Tuesday, May 31, Municipal Administration Committee meeting, 6:30 p.m.

All of the meetings will be held in the Lansford Community Center.

The Lansford Borough Office will be closed on Monday, May 30, in observance of Memorial Day.
