Hunter named PSAC Freshman of Year
Bloomsburg University baseball player Kyle Hunter has been named the 2011 PSAC Eastern Division Freshman of the Year.
Hunter, a Lehighton graduate, won his last four decisions for the Huskies. On the season he is 4-1 with a team-best 2.61 ERA and has twice been named the PSAC East Pitcher of the Week.
Among his four wins was a four-hit shutout of nationally-ranked and PSAC East champ Millersville in which he struck out seven and walked just two. He also tossed a three-hit shutout against Kutztown which helped the Huskies move into playoff contention on the season's final weekend.
Hunter, a right-hander, has three complete games on the season and opponents are hitting just .230 off him. In PSAC East only games Hunter was 4-0 with an 0.97 ERA. He becomes the first Huskies player to win a PSAC postseason award since 1997.
In addition to the award, the former Indian hurler was also named to the All-PSAC East second team.
