Beach party

The North and Middle Ward Playground Association will host a welcome to Summer Beach Dance Party on May 29, from 6-9 p.m., at the playground. Music will be provided by DJ Ray.

Free leis will be provided to the first 100 children.

The playground is located on Washington Street.

TAHS Baccalaureate

The annual Baccalaureate service for the Tamaqua Area High School Class of 2011 will be held May 29, at 7:30 p.m., in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church.

SS. Peter and Paul

Memorial Day Mass will be held Monday, at 8 a.m. in SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church. The cemetery service is scheduled for 10 a.m.

The Feast of the Ascension will be celebrated Thursday, June 2. A Vigil Mass will be held Wednesday at 7 p.m. Thursday Masses will be at 8 a.m. and 9 a.m.

First Friday observances will be held next week. Communion calls will be made on Thursday for residents of Hometown and Coaldale. All others will begin Friday at 9 a.m. First Friday confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by Mass and devotions at 8 a.m.

June 4 will be a Fatima Saturday. Confessions will be heard at 7:30 a.m., followed by a Recitation of the Rosary and Devotions prior to the 8 a.m. Mass.

The first Sunday in June will be a Rosary Sunday. Members of the Holy Rosary Society will attend the 8 a.m. Mass and receive Holy Communion as a group.

The Mass will be preceded by a recitation of the Rosary and devotions.

First Methodist

The Rev. Marge Kropp will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. Adult Sunday school will meet at 9:30 a.m.

Activities for next week include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m., MOM Committee meets at 6:30 p.m. at the home of Frances Zukovich; Wednesday, senior choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.

On June 5, there will be a family dinner event, honoring 50-year members of the church. The Trevorrow Scholarships will also be awarded and 2011 graduates will be recognized

The annual Strawberry Festival is scheduled for June 11, from 5:30 to 6:30 p.m.

The summer movie series is scheduled to begin June 26, at 7 p.m. The film "The Bishop's Wife," starring Loretta Young and Cary Grant, will be the feature presentation.

St. Jerome's

The St. Jerome Regional School Board will meet today, at 7 p.m. Registrations are still being accepted for kindergarten and new students for the 2011-2012 school year.

The parish Vacation Bible School will be held June 27 through July 1, from 9 a.m. to noon. The sessions are open to children 4 years of age through students in fifth grade. The Children's Liturgy of the Word will temporarily conclude this Sunday, resuming in mid-September. Children's bulletins will be available during the summer months.
