Garden Club
The Lewistown Valley Garden Club held its anniversary dinner at St. Joseph's Social Hall in Summit Hill. President June Leiby conducted the business session. There were 20 members and guests in attendance.
Donald Serfass provided a program on high wheel bikes and the history behind the wheel and vintage bikes. His displays included a vintage bike and vintage posters.
The next meeting will be held Nov. 22 at Zion's Social Hall in the Lewistown Valley. Guest speaker will be Tom Reed, master gardener. The evening's arrangement theme will be "detergent containers," while the specimen will be a branch with berries.

GriefShare
Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church will host a GriefShare seminar, "Surviving the Holidays," in an effort to help those dealing with the loss of a loved one. The seminar will be held Nov. 20, at 6 p.m., at Bethany EC, 223 E. Broad St.
Refreshments will be served.

Bloodmobile
An American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be held in Tamaqua on Nov. 16, at the Salvation Army Community Center. Hours will be from 1-6 p.m.
Anyone 17 or older, weighing at least 110 pounds and in good general health is eligible to donate blood.
Appointments for donors may be made by calling 1-800-RED-CROSS.
SWNC to meet
The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet next Thursday, Nov. 17, at 7 p.m., at the South Ward Community Center, located at the South Ward Playground. Topics for discussion will include the Halloween On the Hill event and plans for Christmas.
Anyone interested in improving the South Ward is welcome to attend.
Thanksgiving dinner
The Tamaqua Salvation Army will sponsor a free community Thanksgiving Dinner on Thanksgiving Day, Nov. 24. Dinner will be served from 11 a.m. to 3 p.m. The center is located at 105 W. Broad St.

St. John UCC
The Rev. Kevin Duffy Guy will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. service this Sunday in St. John United Church of Christ. A time of fellowship will be held following the service. Sunday school classes meet at 11 a.m.
The weekly service is broadcast on radio station WLSH, AM1410, at 11:30 a.m. Sundays.
Also on Sunday, the Confirmation class will meet at noon.
Activities for next week will include: Wednesday, choir rehearsal at 7:30 p.m.; Saturday, rice pudding sale.
