Blood drive today
The Western Pocono Lions Club, in cooperation with the American Legion, Gilbert, is holding an American Red Cross blood drive today at the Legion post home from 1:30-6 p.m. Walk-in donors are welcome.
The club will hold its regular meeting at 7 p.m. at Ye Olde Saylors Inn, with special guest Alyse Mitten speaking on the judging of free community newspapers.
Altar and rosary
The monthly meeting of the Altar and Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will be held at 6:30 p.m., Wednesday, Nov. 16, in McCawley Hall. The guest speaker will be Tom Reagan, director of Catholic Services of Monroe County.

Rotary speaker
Janet Fisher of Effort will be the featured speaker at the breakfast meeting of the West End Rotary Club at 7:30 a.m. Thursday, Nov. 17 at the Western Pocono Community Library, Brodheadsville. She will present a classification speech.
PV School Board
The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will hold its next meeting at 8 p.m. Thursday, Nov. 17, in the district office in Brodheadsville.
Chestnuthill Seniors
The senior center serving the Chestnuthill Seniors, at Zion Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville, is open Wednesday and Fridays. The proposed luncheon for Nov. 18 is Asian roast pork; the Nov. 23 lunch will feature a Thanksgiving turkey dinner. Call manager Doris Phillips at (570) 992-6988 a day or two ahead if planning on attending for lunch.
The center will be closed on Black Friday, Nov. 25.
Christmas Puppet Show
Countryside Alliance Church, Route 115 and Countryside Drive, Brodheadsville, (across from Pleasant Valley Middle School) will present a free Christmas puppet show with the Good News Puppets at 2 p.m., Saturday, Dec. 10.

Teens volunteer
A relatively new group of teens is working hard to make a difference for Monroe County's foster children in their teens. Known as Teen Knights, the youth are collecting items to make gift boxes for teens in foster care.

Thanksgiving service
The Pleasant Valley Ecumenical Network will host its annual Thanksgiving service at 3 p.m., Sunday, Nov. 20 at Zion United Lutheran Church in Brodheadsville. An ecumenical choir has been practicing for that service and will hold practice at 9 a.m., Saturday, Nov. 19, at Zion.
Thanksgiving feast
Effort UMC in Effort will host its sixth annual community Thanksgiving feast beginning at 2 p.m. on Thanksgiving Day.
The meal is free, but reservations must be made as the church can only accommodate 100 persons.

The dinner is open to anyone who will be home alone that day or cannot provide a traditional Thanksgiving meal.
