Author to read in Palmerton

Published October 10. 2011 05:03PM

Paul Sheckler, who graduated from Palmerton High School in 1955 and Penn State University in 1960, and now lives in California, is discussing and readingsmall portions of his novel, "The Hawk Knows," at the Palmerton Area Library at 11 a.m., Friday, Oct. 21.

The book is available on Amazon, Barnes and Noble, and AuthorHouse websites in hardback, soft cover and electronic forms, as well as at the library on Oct. 21.

"The Hawk Knows" centers around a Ponzi Scheme in real estate and is set in Arizona during the financial debacles of 2007-2008.

The protagonists are Billy and Olivia, two educated Navajos, who are involved unwittingly in a scheme to defraud investors. Though caution glared at them, they pressed on, ensnared by bad judgment, naivete and greed.

Their challenge becomes, "How to stop unscrupulous businessmen and maintain their own integrity."

Beside the Phoenix area, the reader is taken to spiritual spots within the Navajo Reservation, the Grand Canyon, Las Vegas, and San Carlos, Mexico.

Additionally, the book illustrates the difficulty Billy's Navajo brother has with coping as an amputee from the Iraq War and his subsequent alcoholism.

All are welcome, and Sheckler is hoping former classmates will attend as well.
