School bonfire rescheduled

A bonfire scheduled this past Wednesday at Panther Valley has been tentatively rescheduled for Thursday, Oct. 27, behind the middle school. The bonfire is to celebrate all fall sports teams and organizations.

All students, faculty and members of the community are encouraged to attend.

Summit Hill

St. Paul Lutheran

The Rev. Stanley Trout, a retired pastor from Macungie, will be the guest minister at St. Paul Lutheran Church, Summit Hill, on Sunday, Oct. 23.

He will deliver the sermon during the 10:30 a.m. worship service.

The church's Sunday school will meet at 9 a.m.

On Sunday, Oct. 30, the guest minister will be the Rev. Peggy Sue Pfeffer, chaplain for Hospice St. John, Hazleton.

Trick or Treat

Summit Hill Mayor Paul McArdle has announced the townwide Trick or Treat Night will be held on Monday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m. Residents welcoming children to their homes are asked to have their properties well-lighted.

McArdle said additional police shifts will be assigned in order to help make sure the safety of the children is maintained. In addition, members of the fire department, fire police and American Legion Post 316 will be patrolling the streets to help make the annual event a safe one.

Anthracite LL

The Anthracite Little League will meet on Sunday, Nov. 13, at 6:30 p.m. at the Summit Hill Borough Building. President Roobhenn Smith will be in charge of the session.

The agenda will include nominations for head coaching positions, financial reports, news and notes from the offseason, registration fees, field usage, election of officers and ratification of bylaws for the 2012 season. Persons aspiring to coach in the league next year are reminded they must be present at this meeting to accept a nomination.

Parents of all players (Summit Hill and Nesquehoning) are encouraged to attend.

Lions to meet

The Summit Hill Lions Club will meet on Tuesday, Oct. 25, at 6:30 p.m. at the Mahoning Valley Country Club. Judy Midas, president, will be in charge of the session. Members are asked to contact her to inform her of their attendance.

Lansford

Trick or Treat

Lansford Mayor Ron Hood has announced Trick or Treat Night in the borough will be held on Monday, Oct. 31, from 6-8 p.m.

Additional police coverage will be scheduled.

Persons welcoming children to their homes are asked to have their properties well-lighted.

Nesquehoning

Democrats to meet

The Nesquehoning Democratic Club will meet on Sunday, Oct. 23, at 6 p.m. at the Nesquehoning Lions Club building. Frank Jacobs, president, will be in charge of the meeting, during which time plans for the General Election on Nov. 8 will be discussed.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary meeting

The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held on Oct. 11 at the Post Home. President Amanda Breiner presided at the session.

The "Wreaths Across America" program is being worked on and should be completed prior to Thanksgiving. Wreaths will be placed at the Indiantown Gap National Cemetery in December.

Post and Auxiliary members will be at Redner's Oct. 28-30 with poppies for Veterans Day.

The Veterans Day Parade will be held in Jim Thorpe on Sunday, Nov. 6, at 2 p.m. Any member wishing to ride in the parade should contact Breiner.

Dues will increase after December 15. A letter will be sent out regarding the increase.

A Miller Bloodmobile collection will be held at the Post Home on Wednesday, Nov. 2, from 4:30-7 p.m.

The Voice of Democracy Program is currently under way at Panther Valley High School.

The next district meeting will be held Sunday, Oct. 23, at noon in Walnutport. Department President Sherry Steinbiser will make her official visit to the district at that time.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, Nov. 8, 6:30 p.m. at the Post Home.

Coaldale

First Congregational Church

Morning worship will be held at First Congregational Church at 9 a.m. Monday, Oct. 23, followed by Sunday School for all ages at 10 a.m.

The church choir will rehearse at 6:30 p.m. Wednesday, Oct. 26. Bible Study will be conducted at 7 p.m.

Gifts for Samaritan's Purse, a collection of small gift items for children, will be accepted until Sunday, Nov. 6. Boxes will be packed and sent to needy children across the world. War-related toys should not be included in the collection.
