Driver falls asleep, crashes truck

A Schuylkill County driver fell asleep at the wheel of his pickup truck and crashed. The accident occurred about 12:40 a.m. on Sunday, Oct. 23, along SR901, just east of Woodside Road, in Cass Township.

State police at Frackville said Ross Sterling, 26, of Pottsville, was driving a 2002 Chevrolet Silverado westbound when he fell asleep. The truck went onto the left berm of the road and impacted with several trees.

Sterling and his passenger, Amanda Direnzo, 23, of Minersville, were not injured, however, the truck sustained heavy damages, troopers said.
