Regular season is winding down

With the regular season winding down, most of the guys took a big hit last week, all except for Jason Boris, who has just about locked up the 2011 title.

Not that we are all throwing in the title, but after his 12-3 week, no one is even close to him anymore.

Why does Boris do so well?

Maybe it's because he studies these games for days like there was a big cash prize on the line and the rest of us realize it is for amusement only. Some of our writers even let their friends, mothers or daughters make the picks for them.

This week, there must not have been many games that weren't one-sided because quite a few of them are unanimous picks. So let's take a a look at Week No.9 of the regular season and see what's on the card:

JIM THORPE AT MARIAN - The Colts came up with a big win at Shenandoah last week and the Olympians are coming off a gratifying win over Schuylkill Haven, their first of the season. This one is in "Colt Country" so .... Marian, 35-14.

TAMAQUA AT MINERSVILLE - This is the Blue Raiders' playoff game if you want to call it that because a win here could clinch an Eastern Conference playoff berth. The Battlin' Miners are tough though .... Minersville, 21-20.

POCONO MOUNTAIN EAST at Pleasant Valley - The Bears took it on the chin at East Stroudsburg South last week, but this is the "Bucket Game" so they'll be ready ... Pleasant Valley, 28-21.

LEHIGHTON AT EAST STROUDSBURG NORTH - Hopefully the long ride to Bushkill won't put a cramp in the Indians plans ... Lehighton, 21-14.

CATASAUQUA AT NORTHERN LEHIGH - Learned my lesson last week so don't expect me to pick against the Bulldogs ... Northern Lehigh, 35-7.

BANGOR AT NORTHWESTERN LEHIGH - Went with the Slaters last week because their huge line impressed me the week before. This week, they show their power again ... Bangor, 32-7.

PALMERTON AT PEN ARGYL - One of the toughest places to play on a Saturday afternoon is at Pen Argyl, especially this year. The Green Knights are for real ... Pen Argyl, 35-0.

NOTRE DAME AT SALISBURY - The Crusaders have actually improved this year, but just need to get another win or two under their belts to see what it feels like. They get one here ... Notre Dame, 21-7.

WILSON AT SAUCON VALLEY - Warriors earned first win of the season last week. Panthers have a strong defense and still have a shot at a .500 record .... Saucon Valley, 28-7.

POCONO MOUNTAIN WEST AT STROUDSBURG - The Mountaineers have done quite well during this first season without Fred Ross at the helm ... Stroudsburg, 28-14.

SCHUYLKILL HAVEN AT MAHANOY AREA - The Golden Bears almost pulled off the "Upset of the Year" last week against North Schuylkill. As long as there is no letdown, they get back on track ... Mahanoy Area, 35-14.

WILLIAMS VALLEY AT PINE GROVE - This will be a big test for the unbeaten Cardinals as they prepare for post-season play ... Pine Grove, 22-21.

LIBERTY AT EASTON - Almost want to "Flip the Coin" here, but I'll go with Steve Shiffert and the home team ... Easton, 28-27.

WHITEHALL AT NAZARETH - After the Blue Eagles lost to Parkland last week, this is a big bounce back week for them. I'm going out on a limb, however. Hope it doesn't break ... Whitehall, 14-13.
