Candlelight Vigil

The 10th annual Memorial 9-11 Candlelight Vigil will take place at 7 p.m., Sunday, Sept. 11, at the American Legion West End Memorial Post 927, Gilbert.

The program includes the Pocono Region Pipe and Drum, guest singer Kim Sutton, state representatives, New York Fire Department, U.S. Military, a memorial presentation and special guest Staff Sgt. Richard Hoffman.

Parking will be available in the ball field behind the Legion building.

The main lot will be reserved for public seating, fire. police, EMT, military departments, etc. Guests are reminded to bring lawn chairs.

There will be refreshments after the vigil.

Rotary governor's visit

PV School Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8, in the district office in Brodheadsville.

Knight of Columbus

The next meeting of the Knights of Columbus at Our Lady Queen of Peace, Brodheadsville/Gilbert, Route 209, is set for 7:30 p.m., Thursday, Sept. 8.

Zion notes dates

With the coming of September and the start of the school year, area churches are once again beginning Sunday School and holding Rally Day. For Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville that celebration will fall on Sunday, Sept. 11.

On that date also, the regular two worship services per Sunday begin anew, and will be held at 8 a.m. and 10:30 a.m. for the fall, winter and spring season. Also on the church calendar for Sunday, Sept. 11, is GraceFest, from noon to 3 p.m.

All Sports Club

The Pleasant Valley All Sports Club will meet at 7:30 p.m., Monday, Sept. 12, in the high school library.

SMedicare Fraud

Different speakers will present a program on Medicare Fraud at the various Monroe Senior Centers in September. Charlotte Kitler will present that program at 11 a.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14, at the Chestnuthill Senior Center at Zion Lutheran Church. This program is free and open to the public. Bible classes

Released time Bible classes in Monroe County are being planned by BCM International missionary Jim Ecker, including for the West End. Interested families may reach him at (570) 421-9968. He anticipates those classes, for children in public schools in grades K through 7, as well as home-schoolers, beginning Oct. 3.

Several Pleasant Valley School District Elementary schools are having open house from 6-8 p.m., Wednesday, Sept. 14.

Chestnuthill Elementary in Brodheadsville is among those schools hosting students' families.
