Two teams gain initial victories

Lehighton's soccer team and Weatherly's volleyball squad both posted their first wins of the season.

The Indians blanked East Stroudsburg South, 1-0, while the Lady Wreckers swept past MMI.

BOYS SOCCER

ES South-Lehighton

Anthony Rossino scored the game's only goal to lift Lehighton to a 1-0 Mountain Valley Conference win over East Stroudsburg South.

Rossino took a pass from Geoff Ebbert and beat the Cavs' Luke Cason at the 24:11 mark of the first half to give the Indians their first win of the season.

Lehighton (1-4; 1-3) was outshot in the contest, 9-5. Winning goalie Shane Fordyce had four saves while Cason had six stops.

GIRLS TENNIS

Easton-Pleasant Vy.

Lauren Heckelman earned a three-set win at No. 1 singles for Pleasant Valley, but that was all the Bears could muster in dropping a 6-1 non-league decision to visiting Easton.

Kara Urland/Madison Olexson 6-4, 6-2; Pauline Lopez/Deanna Walter (E) def. Mallory Snook/Aimee Sokolowski 6-4, 6-3.

FIELD HOCKEY

Bangor-Northwestern

Bangor had a decisive advantage in shots but Northwestern still manages to gain a 2-2 tie in a Colonial League matchup.

Tiffany Gumina assists Lauren Horner's first half goal for the Tigers (3-1-1) and then tallies herself in the second half.

The Slaters (4-0-1) received goals from Olivia Fleischer and Abigail Bakke.

VOLLEYBALL

Weatherly-MMI

Weatherly earns its first win of the season by sweeping MMI 25-13, 25-17, 25-18.

Alicia Panzarella leads the way for the Wreckers (1-6) with 24 digs, six kills and two aces.

The winners also receive nine kills, 10 digs, a block and an ace from Sarah Dolinsky while Jess Adamczyk adds three digs and three blocks. Alyssa Miller chips in with seven digs, a block and a kill.

In the JV match, MMI won 25-14, 25-20.

In Thursday's match against Shenandoah, Weatherly dropped a 25-23, 25-20, 25-21 decision.

Panzarella had 22 digs in the loss.

The Wrecker JVs won their match 19-25, 25-21, 29-27.
