DUI arrests
Pocono Mountain Regional police reported on three driving under the influence (DUI) arrests made by officers recently.
On Saturday, Sept. 24, about 2:29 a.m. officers observed a Ford cargo truck strike mailboxes on Knob Road, in Mt. Pocono, and flee the scene. The van traveled north on SR611 where it almost struck a police vehicle at School St. Police then attempted to initiate a traffic stop but the operator refused to stop. A short, low speed pursuit then ensued and the van eventually stopped within the Snow Shoe Condo's parking lot after driving through the front lawn.
The driver was identified as Hugo Villareal-Marin, 21, of Tobyhanna. He was found to be under the influence and was transported to the Pocono Medical Center (PMC), East Stroudsburg, for a blood test.
He has been charged with fleeing and eluding, as a felony three, also DUI, reckless endangerment and several motor vehicle code violations. He was arraigned before District Judge Anthony Fluegel, Mt. Pocono, and committed to the county prison in lieu of $50,000 straight cash bail.
Also on Saturday, about 12:15 p.m., officers pulled a vehicle over along SR196 near Echo Lake Road, in Coolbaugh Township, after observing it being operated in an erratic manner. Police said the car traveled at a speed that was unsafe due to foggy and rainy conditions and crossed over the center line several times.
The driver was identified as Kimberly A. Altemier, 31, of Greentown, Pike County. She was found to be under the influence and in possession of an open container of alcohol.
She failed field sobriety tests and was transported to the state police barracks at Fern Ridge for a breath test. The test showed her over the legal limit.
She was charged with DUI, restrictions on alcoholic beverages and related traffic offenses, police said.
On Thursday, Sept. 22, about 12:04 a.m. police on patrol on SR940 westbound observed a Honda Element being driven erratically. A traffic stop was made and the driver identified as William Estes III, 77, of New York, N.Y. He was found to be under the influence but refused to submit to a test.
He was charged with DUI and related motor vehicle offenses.
