September 28, 1940 Jackie Costello throws a pair of touchdown passes to help Tamaqua gain a 19-6 victory over Ashland. Costello hooks up with Bob McMichael from seven yards out for the Blue Raiders' first score and then connects with "Young Hogan" Fulmer on a nine-yard scoring strike later in the contest. McMichael also scores on defense, intercepting a pass and returning it 70 yards for a touchdown.
