Lehighton, Nolehi get hockey wins

Lehighton and Northern Lehigh grabbed wins in field hockey on Tuesday afternoon.

In other action, Tamaqua grabbed a tennis win over Jim Thorpe.

FIELD HOCKEY

PM East-Lehighton

Lehighton's Sage Terembula scored two goals and helped the Indians to a 3-1 win over MVC foe Pocono Mt. East.

Sarah Keer added the third goal for the locals late in the second half. She also had an assist.

Lehighton moves to 6-4-1 (4-1-1).

Wilson-No. Lehigh

Northern Lehigh put up double digit goals, as they Lady Bulldogs beat up on Wilson 11-1 in Colonial League play.

Kiana Bellsfield, Kayla Bensinger, Rachel Wagner and Casey Gavalla each had two goals and one assist for Northern Lehigh (6-3-1, 6-1-1).

The locals' other three goals were scored by Morgen Danish (two) and Jessie Olewine.

Palisades

-Northwestern

Palisades and Northwestern played to a 3-3 tie in their Colonial League contest.

The Tigers' Sara Jones led the way with two goals for the locals. Teammate Caileigh Landrigan added the third midway through the second half.

Northwestern foes to 5-2-2 (4-2-2) on the year.

So. Lehigh-Palmerton

Southern Lehigh tallied five goals on 32 shots and went on to beat Colonial League foe Palmerton, 5-1.

Greta Hartsell scored the Bombers' only goal in the second half off of a corner.

-Pleasant Valley

The Pleasant Valley and East Stroudsburg North match-up ended in 0-0 tie and play was suspended early due to lightning.

GIRLS SOCCER

Jim Thorpe-Tamaqua

The Jim Thorpe and Tamaqua game was suspended due to lightning in the first half with the score tied 1-1.

The game will be resumed Wednesday at 5 p.m.

GIRLS TENNIS

Tamaqua-Jim Thorpe

Tamaqua held on in a tight one to defeat Jim Thorpe, 3-2 in non-league play.

Singles players Nicki Mateyak and Sarah Zoba each posted straight set victories to lead the Raiders to victory. Their fellow doubles team of Lain Confer/Emily Hansler also win in straight sets.

Jim Thorpe's two wins came from No. 2 singles player Gabbie Binder and No. 1 doubles team Carly Marzen/Gabby Kline.

East Stroudsburg South knocked off Pleasant Valley on the road, winning 5-2 in MVC action.

The Bears' No. 1 singles player in Lauren Heckelman posted one of the team's wins. She won in straight sets, 6-1, 7-5.

The Bears other victory came from the doubles team of Mackie Caffrey/Sarina Tufano. They won their proset 8-6.

Marian-Tri-Valley

Marian improved to 7-0 on the season beating Tr-Valley in three games 25-18, 25-14, 25-11.

Marykate Sherkness led the Fillies with 21 kills and 10 digs. Nikki Collevechio had 17 digs and Abbey O'Donnell helped out with 33 assists.

Pine Grove-Jim Thorpe

Pine Grove swept Jim Thorpe , winning 25-11, 25-7, 25-18.

Melissa Weber led the Olympians three kills. Shannon Green added three blocks and two aces.

Becahi-Lehighton

In a non-conference showdown, it was Bethlehem Catholic that came out on top with a 25-14, 25-11, 25-20 win over Lehighton.

The Indians' Jackie Jordan finished with four digs, two aces and two kills, while Natalie Zurn recorded 11 digs.

In the JV game, Bethlehem Catholic posted a 25-11, 25-18 victory over Lehighton.

Panther Vy.-Blue Mtn.

Panther Valley took all three games from Blue Mountain , winning 25-6, 25-13, 26-24. Amy Yusella continued her successful senior campaign with 16 kills, six service points, and eight digs. Krissy Michalik chipped in with eight kills, eight service points, and 12 aces and Rachelle Van Horn racked up 13 service points and 15 assists.

Halifax-Tamaqua

Halifax topped Tamaqua in three close games, 25-22, 25-20, 25-23.

Sarah Paluck paced the Lady Raiders with ten kills and ten digs. Sarah Lesisko added five service points, three aces, three kills and three digs, while Rylee Devlin chipped in with four kills.

Weatherly-Minersville

After dropping the first two sets, Weatherly rebounded to score a come-from-behind 18-25, 19-25, 25-15, 25-22, 15-10 victory over Minersville.

Alicia Panzarella paced the Wreckers with 30 digs, six aces, six kills and five assists, while Sarah Delinsky chipped in with 24 digs, six aces, five assists and two blocks.

Jess Adamczyk finished with 14 digs, five assists, four kills, three blocks and two aces, while Lindsay Douglas recorded 12 digs, five assists and three kills.

In the JV game, Weatherly went onto score a 30-28, 25-15 win.

Lehighton lost all four of its cross country matches with the Pocono Mountain schools on Tuesday.

Jen Beers had the highest finish of any Indian runner. She placed second on the girls' side with a time of 22:48.

Dave Magyar placed the highest on the boys' side. He came in fifth (20:59).
