Bears 3rd at Zephyr Relays

Pleasant Valley and Palmerton had a good showing on Saturday at the Annual Zephyr Relays at Whitehall.

In the only other event involving an area team that wasn't postponed by rain, Pleasant Valley fell to Parkland in soccer.

Zephyr Relays

The Bears finished third and the Blue Bombers fifth on both the boys and girls side of the ledger.

The Bears finished first in the 800 relay, distance relay and 1600 relay in the boys division and second in the 400 and 3200 relays.

Matt Sheehan, Jahil Aldridge, Hiram Woodruff and Keegan Bray won the 800 relay with a time of 1:34.87.

Alex Larkin, Lawrence Robinson, Anthony Ruiz and John Wathan finished first in the distance relay in 11:16.35.

In the 1600 relay, it was Robinson, Nicholas Carrales,Wathan and Bray picking up the win with a time of 3:35.70.

Palmerton's Alex Vignone won the individual long jump with a leap measuring 19-4 1/2.

Vignone was also part of the winning 400-meter relay foursome along with Travis Wolfe, Sallas Miata and Monty Szukics with a 44.64 time.

The Bombers also finished second in the team triple jump and team discus and third in the 800 sprint medley relay and team shot put.

In the girls competition, Pleasant Valley won the team triple jump at 67-3 and Kelecia Harris finished first in the individual long jump at 16-2 1/2.

The Bears also finished second in the distance relay and second in the team long jump.

Palmerton's Lauryn Solt won the individual high jump by clearing a height of 5-0.

The Bombers also finished second in the team high jump and team shot put and took third in the 400 relay.

GIRLS SOCCER

Parkland-Pleasant Vy.

The Trojans jumped out to a two goal lead in the first half and never looked back as they rolled to a 4-2 win over the Lady Bears (3-2, 2-0) in a non-league game.

Parkland's Kayla Haberbosch scored three goals for the hat trick and Jill O'Connell added the other. Hannah Gombos added an assist.

Ema Sabovic and Dana McAllister each scored a goal for the Bears.

Parkland (4-0-1, 2-0) outshot Pleasant Valley 12-6 with the Bears' Janelle Pastrana getting eight saves in goal. Becky Webster had three saves and Shannon Kriz one as they split time in goal for the Trojans.

Parkland also won the JV game 1-0.
