Ryan's O & H wins ESRC title
Ryan's Oil & Heating captured its third straight ESRC Winter Basketball League Championship with a 71-66 victory over R.R. Frey Services on Wednesday evening at the Tamaqua Area Athletic Center. Ryan's Oil & Heating defeated R.R. Frey Services, 71-66, to capture the 2012 Eastern Schuylkill Recreation Commission Winter Basketball League Championship. It marked the third straight ESRC winter league championship for Ryan's Oil & Heating and its sixth winter league championship in the past seven years.
R.R. Frey Services came out with an early lead before Ryan's exploded for 25 points in the final 10 minutes of the half to take a 38-29 lead into halftime.
R.R. Frey Services eventually cut the lead to three points (69-66) in the waning seconds, but Jon Scheuer stepped to the free throw line for Ryan's and iced the game by converting both free throw attempts to give his team the five-point victory.
Scheuer, who was later named the championship game's Most Valuable Player, scored a season-high 29 points for Ryan's Oil & Heating (8-1). Mike Stankiewitch added nine points.
For R.R. Frey Services, Dave Wilson scored a team-high 25 points. Derrick McFarland and Ryan Achenbach scored 16 and 12 points respectively while Tom Toth hauled in 11 rebounds.
