Sorority news
Preceptor Alpha Upsilon chapter of Beta Sigma Phi Sorority met March 14 at La Dolce Casa Restaurant in Tamaqua. The meeting, hosted by Nancy Meiser, had a retro look, based on the 50s, 60s and 70s.
During the business session, officers for 2012-2013 were elected and the community egg hunt was discussed.
A Ritual of Jewels and Silver Circle ceremony will be held April 28 at Normal Square Inn. Cathy Santee, a member of Beta Sigma Phi, will be honored for 25 years of commitment to the sorority.
Meiser's program included a quiz on "oldies" music and the chance to see who could still operate a hula hoop. Secret Sister Easter surprises were exchanged.
The next meeting will be held at 7:30 p.m., April 11, at Heisler's Dairy Bar in the Lewistown Valley.
Rush-Ryan seniors
The Rush, Ryan and Delano Senior Citizens Inc. met March 27 at the Ryan Township Fire Company with 46 members and one guest, Anna Mae Yushinsky, in attendance.
President Eleanor Schmerfeld conducted the business meeting. Chaplain Kathleen Valentine offered an invocation. Reports were presented by secretary Florina Martin and treasurer Shirley Becker.
The anniversary dinner will be held on May 8 and a bus trip is being planned to Knoebel's Grove.
Readings were offered by Martin, Sylvia Garcia and Becker.
The group meets the second and fourth Monday of every month. Anyone 50 or older is welcome to join.
Rush taxes
Rush Township tax collector Dolores Walck has announced the 2012 tax bills have been mailed to township residents ages 18 and up. Anyone in that age group, who has not received a tax form, should contact Walck at (570) 668-5661.
Office hours for April will be Tuesdays, from 9-11 a.m., and Wednesdays, 6-8 p.m. For May and June, the office will be open Tuesdays, from 9-10 a.m. and Wednesdays, from 6-7 p.m.
Additional hours will be held from 10-11 a.m. on Monday, April 30.
Walck's office will be closed May 22-23, as well as June 12-13.
Egg hunt
The Marketing Committee of the Tamaqua Area Chamber of Commerce will host its Seventh Annual Easter Egg Hunt at Depot Square Park on Saturday, April 7. The event will begin at 10 a.m. and is open to toddlers and children up to the age of 9.
No registration is required.

St. Peter's Union
The Rev. Cheryl Moore will officiate at the 6:30 and 9 a.m. worship services this Easter Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Both services will include Holy Communion and the later service will include a Joyous Noise Offering for the Parkinson Unity Walk. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m. and Confirmation class meets at11:30 a.m.
Activities for next week will include: Monday, food co-op meets at 9 a.m.; Wednesday, retirees meet at 10 a.m.; Thursday, senior choir rehearses at 7:30 p.m.
The Rev. Russell Heintzelman will be guest minister at the April 15 and April 22 services.
First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Easter Sunday in First United Methodist Church. Adult Sunday school will meet at 9:30 a.m.
A prayer vigil will be held from 11 a.m. to 4 p.m., this Saturday, April 7.
Activities for next week include: Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, chancel choir rehearsal is at 7 p.m.
