April 7, 1951 George Biank, captain of the Nesquehoning gym team, captures the gold medal in the scholastic tumbling (floor exercise) championship at the state final gymnastic competition held at Penn State. Teammate Robert Coombe also earns a medal, taking bronze in the side (pommel) horse. Others from the Nesquehoning team, coached by George Roscoe, to finish in the top five include John Kochaba (fourth in tumbling), James Macalush (fifth in tumbling), Mike Trevena (fourth in side horse) amd John Moskerinetz (fourth on horizontal bar).
