Clean up

The Spring 2012 Great Pennsylvania Clean Up is scheduled for this Saturday. Two Tamaqua groups, the Tamaqua Beautification Association and the South Ward Neighborhood Committee will be participating in the event, held in conjunction with the Schuylkill-Keep It Pretty Campaign. The groups will be joined by concerned citizens, local Scouts and Tamaqua Area School District students.

The Tamaqua Beautification Association will meet at 8:30 a.m. in the parking lot at the M & T Bank, Broad and Center Streets. The SWNC will meet at 8:30 a.m. at the South Ward Playground

Trash bags, safety vests and gloves will be provided.

Senior citizens

The Tamaqua Seniors met April 12 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 76 members and one guest, Phyllis Bergman, in attendance. Vice President Nancy Gerber conducted the business session and provided her weekly report.

Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "God Is Always There." Reports were also offered by secretary Joan Anne Garber and treasurer Antoinette Triano.

The March 29 meeting was attended by 79 members. One new member, Diane Gould, was welcomed. February and March birthdays were celebrated. A moment of silence was held in memory of Margaret Matsago. Betty Connely and Pat Regalis were added to the sick list.

The meetings concluded with cards and social games.

The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.

SWNC to meet

The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the South Ward Community Center, located at the South Ward Playground. The Spring clean up campaign will be discussed.

Anyone interested in improving the South Ward is welcome to attend.

St. Peter's Union

The Rev. Russell Heintzelman will be the guest minister at the 9 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. Peter's Union Church, Mantzville. Sunday school classes meet at 10:15 a.m. and Confirmation class meets at11:30 a.m.

Also on Sunday, the Cub Scout Blue and Gold Banquet will be held at 4:30 p.m., Daisies and Brownies will meet at 6 p.m.

Activities for next week will include: Monday, Women's Bible study at 6 p.m.; Thursday, prayer group meets at 5 p.m.

The choirs rehearse on Thursdays. Next week's schedule will include: 7 p.m., junior choir; 7:30 p.m., senior choir.

WP softball

The West Penn Girls Softball Association is accepting applications from girls 16 and under to play for a new team, which will begin action in June.
