Streisel wins javelin at Penn Relays

Tamaqua's Christine Streisel, last year's PIAA Class AA champion in the javelin, took first place in the event at the Penn Relays Thursday.

Competing in the High School category, Streisel's throw of 47.22 meters (154-11) edged Maria Jimmenez of Vineland, NJ. Jimmenez threw 47.11 (154-6).

Streisel, a junior, has an area best this season of 160-11, which came on March 30 at the Tamaqua Blue Raider Invitational.

Palmerton's Kelsey Hay also competed in the javelin finishing 18th with a throw of 33.75 meters (110-8).

The Penn Relays is the oldest and largest track and field competition in the United States. It is held annually at Franklin Field in Philadelphia.
