Free concert

Sage will perform a free concert in the Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville, from 6-8 p.m., Sunday, Aug. 19.

Sage performs an eclectic mix of classical to contemporary pop, blues, and rock tunes. Call the West End Park, (570) 992-9733, or view www.weposc.org for details.

McMichaels UMC

This Sunday, Aug. 19, worship service at McMichaels UMC will be a contemporary one. It begins at 9:30 a.m.

Making progress

Work has begun at the West End Regional Park-Phase 1 on Evergreen Hollow Road, Brodheadsville. This phase includes a parking area, 20-foot by 40-foot pavilion, a shared use walking trail plus a formal entrance to the property.

A grand opening celebration will be coming soon.

Monroe Seniors

This group will meet at Zion Lutheran in Brodheadsville on Friday, Aug. 17 and Wednesday, Aug. 22. The gathering begins at 9 a.m.

Backpack blessing

Our Lady Queen of Peace Church will have a Backpack Blessing for elementary, intermediate, middle and high school students during Mass on Aug. 18 and 19.

Clothing swap

The Pleasant Valley School District will host the Annual Clothing Swap from 10 a.m. to 2 p.m., Saturday, Aug. 18, in the Pleasant Valley High School Cafeteria. The clothing swap is open to all parents/guardians of students in the Pleasant Valley School District grades K-12.

Family Promise

The Zion Lutheran Church family is hosting Family Promise families this week. That means daily feeding them dinner, arranging sleeping for the families and then bidding them farewell in the morning.

Contemporary service

On Sunday, Aug. 19, at 9:45 a.m. Effort UMC will holds its monthly Contemporary worship service.

The service is open to anyone in the community as are the regular worship service Saturdays at 5 p.m. and Sundays at 8:30 a.m. and 11 a.m.

This past Sunday, Roxanne Martin filled the pulpit in light of the vacation of Pastor Robin Miller.

This coming Sunday, another guest preacher will fill the pulpit while Ken Edwards leads the Saturday evening service.

Prayer Shawl Ministry

Effort UMC's knitting and crocheting group will next meet at 10:30 a.m., Tuesday, Aug. 21.

Ice cream social

The Western Pocono Lioness Club will meet Tuesday, Aug. 28. The event will be an ice cream social, followed by finalization of plans for the Sept. 30 fashion show. The theme is: You are so Beautiful.

Residents are reminded to look for the club display at the West End Fair in the group exhibit building, under the banner of: What's cookin' with the Western Pocono Lioness Club.

The club welcomes all those who would be interested in donating time and talent to assist programs that help those in need.
