Golden Agers
The Nov. 26 meeting of the Panther Valley Golden Agers was conducted by President Ronnie Bazik. Sue Dopira read a Scripture Reading appropriate for the season. She was also recognized by her church, St. John The Baptist Byzantine Catholic Church, for her 40 years of service in religious instruction to the parish.
Ruth Ann Feane entertained the members with a selection of Christmas songs.
The new officers for 2013 are Irene Hudasky, president; Shirley Pavlick, vice-president; Tootsie Orsulak, secretary; and Fran Golder, treasurer. Installment of officers will take place Monday, Jan. 14.
The next meeting will be held at 1 p.m. Monday, Dec. 10, at 1 p.m. at St. John's Slovak Lutheran Church. Bingo is scheduled to be played and September-December birthdays will be recognized.
Summit Hill
Sing-a-long invite
The Summit Hill Heritage Center invites the public to attend a free Christmas sing-a-long at the center, 1 W. Hazard St., Summit Hill, on Wednesday, Dec. 12.
The two-hour program will begin that evening at 7 o'clock in the sanctuary of the center (the former St. Paul United Church of Christ). Anyone interested in participating in the singing is welcome to attend. This invitation is not limited to Summit Hill residents, but to persons from throughout the region.
Following the service, light refreshments will be served.

Children's party
American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will once again host a free Christmas party for children of the community.
The event will be held on Saturday, Dec. 15. The doors will open at noon and Santa is expected to arrive by firetruck to greet the children at 1 o'clock.
Refreshments will be served and each child attending will receive a stocking from Santa.
St. Paul's Lutheran at a glance
St. Paul's Lutheran Church, 123 W. White St., Summit Hill announces the following events for the month of December.
The church council will meet at 7 p.m. Tuesday, Dec. 11. On Sunday, Dec. 16, the Jim Thorpe Student Choir will perform during the worship service. Volunteers are needed to help decorate the church during the afternoon of Dec. 16 as well. The time is to be determined.
On Dec. 22 the Sunday school will have a dress rehearsal and "Happy Birthday Jesus" Christmas party. Parents and students will be informed of time in the near future. The Sunday school Christmas pageant will be held during the worship service on Dec. 23.
Confirmation class is held every Tuesday beginning at 7:30 p.m. Bible study is held every Sunday at 7 p.m. at St. Paul's and every Thursday morning at Zion's at 10 a.m.
Sunday school is held every Sunday at 9 a.m. at St. Paul's with Worship Service beginning at 10:30 a.m. Vicar Ben Siebert presides. Visitors are always welcome.
Lansford
St. John Lutheran
Wednesday Holden Evening Prayer Service with Holy Communion at St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., Lansford, will begin at 7 p.m. For those who wish to come early, a free simple supper will be served at 6 p.m. followed by a brief Bible study at 6:30. For more information, or if the weather is questionable, call the Rev. Marjorie Keiter, (570) 273-4038. Service will not be held if school is canceled or dismissed early due to bad weather on Wednesdays.
Nesquehoning
VFW Ladies Auxiliary
The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held Nov. 13 at the Post Home. Senior Vice-President Ellen Driesbach presided. It was noted that members participated in the Veterans Day Parade and donated at recent bloodmobiles sponsored by the Post and Auxiliary.
Driesbach reported that she made a wreath for the county Veterans Day Program in Jim Thorpe. The Voice of Democracy Program has been concluded at Panther Valley High School and further information will be provided next month.
The Mount Pocono Post and Auxiliary 3448 hosted a District 20 meeting on Nov. 18.
The annual Auxiliary Christmas party will be held at Lengyel's Restaurant on Tuesday, Dec. 11, beginning at 5:30 p.m. All members are invited to attend. A brief business meeting will be held, followed by dinner and socialization. To make reservations, contact Maureen at (570) 669-9578 by Dec. 8.
The next meeting will be the Auxiliary Christmas party on Dec. 11 at 5:30 p.m.
NCFC Ladies Auxiliary
The New Columbus Fire Company Ladies Auxiliary will hold its Christmas dinner at 6:30 p.m. Friday, Dec. 7 at the fire company. The exchanging of gifts is optional.
