Nesquehoning

Fire companies learn

Members of the three fire companies in Nesquehoning gathered on Dec. 18 at the New Columbus Fire Company to learn about the use of a newly purchased, battery-operated combo Jaws of Life.

The $12,000 piece of equipment is the only one in the immediate area. The NCFC also plans to purchase the Rhino glass cutter in the near future.

Firefighters from Nesquehoning Hose Company, Hauto Volunteer Fire Company, and New Columbus Fire Company listened to John Sileski of Mobile Emergency Services, Inc., speak on the use of the Jaws before the actual use by firefighters.

Using the piece of equipment showed the firefighters how to not only spread, but cut into a car to save a life. Two vehicles were donated for use by Dave Chapman.

Sunday School classes canceled

Sunday School classes for St. Paul's Evangelical Lutheran Church in Summit Hill are canceled for Sunday, Dec. 30 and will resume on Jan. 6 at 9 a.m.
