Essay contest finalist
The students at Saint Joseph Regional Academy, Jim Thorpe, submitted Stand Up For Life Essays. The essay contest was co-sponsored by the Knights of Columbus of the Diocese of Allentown and the The Diocesan Office of Pro-Life Activities and Social Concerns.
Spencer Wahlmark, a seventh-grade student, was a finalist in the Junior Division, with the theme "On the Dignity of Life." An awards banquet was held on Jan. 15 at the Columbian Home in Allentown.
Smoke detectors
If you are in need of a smoke detector for your home or know of a family that is in need of one. The Jim Thorpe Fire Department has free detectors to be given to those in need. If you are interested, contact Fire Chief, Bill Diehm, (570) 325-3890. He also stated that no commercial properties please.
Bloodmobile slated
The American Red Cross Bloodmobile will be stationed at Memorial Hall on Wednesday, Feb. 15, from 1-6 p.m. Donors must be 17 years of age and older.
