Anthracite Little League
The Anthracite Little League Association will hold registration on Saturday, Feb. 11 from 10 a.m. to noon at the Nesquehoning and Summit Hill borough buildings.
Panther Valley Knee-Hi
The next regular monthly meeting for the Panther Valley Knee-Hi Association will be on Tuesday, Feb. 14 at 8 p.m. at The Sports Zoo in Lansford.
Summit Hill
Recreation board
The Summit Hill Recreation Commission will hold its monthly meeting on Monday, Feb. 6, at 7 p.m. in the Hill Top Community Center, 113 W. Ludlow St. Monica A. Marshall, chairman, will be in charge.
Food pantry news
The Summit Hill Food Pantry, headquartered in the Summit Hill Heritage Center building, Hazard and Chestnut streets, makes distributions of nonperishable food items to persons in town who qualify for the assistance on a monthly basis. The next distribution is scheduled for Tuesday, Feb. 28, from 10 a.m. to noon.
Persons who receive the food "boxes" are asked to note no telephone call reminders will be made. In the event there is a change in pantry hours due to snowstorms, etc., the recipients will be notified by telephone. Rosemarie Armon, pantry director, is maintaining an up-to-date roster with telephone numbers of regular recipients. Anyone whose contact information changes is required to notify her of that information.
Borough council
The monthly meeting of the Summit Hill Borough Council will be held on Monday, Feb. 13, at 7 p.m. in the borough hall. Michael Kokinda, president, will be in charge of the session.
Legion to meet
The monthly meeting of American Legion Post 316, Summit Hill, will be held on Monday, Feb. 13, at 7:30 p.m. in the post home. Commander W. Kevin O'Donnell will be in charge of the session.
A meeting of the Home Association will immediately follow the post's meeting.
Lansford
Borough council
The Lansford Borough Council will hold its monthly meeting on Wednesday, Feb. 8, at 6:30 p.m. in the Lansford Community Center. Rosemary Cannon, president, will be in charge of the session.
Nesquehoning
NCFC Ladies Auxiliary
The Feb. 7 meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary of the New Columbus Fire Company has been canceled.
VFW Ladies Auxiliary
The regular monthly meeting of the Ladies Auxiliary to Nesquehoning Memorial VFW Post 8008 was held Jan. 10, with President Amanda Breiner presiding. District 20 President Karen Bandzi and Miriam Mack attended.
The $2 collected per member for the Cancer Fund was submitted in December. Any member stricken with this disease may apply for a Cancer Grant from the fund.
Buddy Poppies will be ordered and a date in May will be set at Redner's. Gertrude Hawk sheets have been handed out and are to be returned by Feb. 27.
The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be March 31 at noon.
Dues for 2012 that have not been paid are now delinquent.
Donations were made to the Junior Girls Conference and the National Home Helpline.
Commemorative Auxiliary coins for veterans will be ordered.
The Veterans and Family Support chairman is moving to Maine. She reminded the Auxiliary to continue the "Wreaths Across America" Program.
President Breiner presented Cathy Sommers with a going away gift. Past President Sommers and her husband Brian, who is a past post commander, thanked members for their assistance and cooperation.
The Voice of Democracy winners at Panther Valley were: first place, Jacob Szczecina and second place, Rylie Krapf. Both students are sophomores at the school. They will be invited to the annual Loyalty Day program on May 1 to receive their awards.
District President Bandzi inspected the Auxiliary and found it to be in good working order.
The next meeting will be Feb. 14, at 6:30 p.m. at the Post Home.
