Pleasant Vy. names Hall of Fame inductees

Pleasant Valley High School has announced the members of its 2012 Hall of Fame Class.

Inductees will be honored between games of Friday's girls-boys basketball doubleheader against Stroudsburg.

JOHN BLICK

John Blick was a three-year letter winner in football, as well as a four-year letter winner in track. He was the District 11 discus champion in both 1994 and 1995. He also won district gold in the shot put in 1995.

Blick was selected to the All-State Football team in 1995 and later attended Penn State University, where he lettered for four years as an offensive lineman. He graduated from Penn State in 2000 with B.A. in Journalism. He later attended East Stroudsburg University in 2005 for MED Professional & Secondary Education and is currently attending Cabrini College working on his principal certification.

Blick is currently an English/Journalism teacher at Northampton Area High School, where he is a member of both the football and track coaching staff.

ROGER R. BORGER

Roger Borger graduated from Pleasant Valley in 1964, where played football, basketball and baseball. He was also the class president and Sports Club President during his senior year.

Borger later graduated from Penn State in 1968 with a B.S. in Science and Agriculture. He later retired from the Pleasant Valley School District, where he was the Coordinator of Buildings & Grounds/Construction Manager of 29 years.

Borger currently resides in Kunkletown, PA with his wife Anita. He has three children, Shawn, Annette and Shane and ten grandchildren.

KARYN KERN-PINTER

A 1996 graduate, Kern-Pinter was a three-year Cross Country letter winner, a four-year Girls' Basketball letter winner and a four-year Track & Field Letter winner. She also found time to be a member of the Pleasant Valley Marching Band for four years.

Kern-Pinter is the all-time girls' leading scorer in school history, as well as the second all-time leading rebounder.

Kern-Pinter was later an All-American at Susquehanna University in women's basketball, where she was the all-time leading rebounder (1,079 rebounds) and third leading scorer (1,773 points) in program history. She remains ranked 14th in career field goal percentage (.597) in NCAA Division III history, while also ranking 20th in single-season field goal percentage (.650). Kern-Pinter was also a four-time Middle Atlantic Conference jumping champion, capturing the triple jump title three times and the long jump crown once.

Entering her 10th season on the Cougar staff, Kern-Pinter serves as the Director of Student-Athlete Services handling NCAA compliance and eligibility, sports information and the student-athlete advisory committee. She also serves as the Senior Woman Administrator. In 2002, Kern-Pinter joined as the assistant director of sports information and facility coordinator before assuming her current position in 2006.

She currently resides in Mt. Bethel, PA with her husband Martin and six-year old daughter Julia.

KEVIN D. SCHELLER

Scheller, a graduate of Pleasant Valley in 1973, was a four-year Baseball letter winner. He later graduated from Pennsylvania Realtors Institute and later became a Real Estate Broker of Koehler Marvin Realty where he achieved his Real Estate Appraiser Certificate.

Scheller was one of the founders of the Pleasant Valley Education Foundation, which was established 11 years ago.

Scheller was also a West End Little League Coach and umpire for 20 years, as well as the Umpire in Chief of West End Little League. He was a member of both the West End Little League Board and the Board of Directors for the Pleasant Valley School District.

DOUG ARNOLD

Doug Arnold's career in education spanned five decades. He was a teacher, the math department head, an assistant principal and an assistant superintendent in the Stroudsburg Area School District. Later he became a math teacher at Chestnuthill (1945-59), was the Pleasant Valley High School Principal (1974-76) and the Pleasant Valley Assistant Superintendent (1976-83).

Prior to his teaching career, Arnold received Master's Degree from Lehigh University. His son, Dr. Douglas Arnold is the Superintendent of Pleasant Valley School District.
