Kindergarten registration
Registration for kindergarten classes, in the Tamaqua Area School District, for the school year 2012-2013, will be held March 12, 13 and 14 at the Rush Elementary School and on March 15 at the West Penn Elementary School.
Registration hours are from 8:30 a.m. to 2 p.m.
Registration packets will be available at all three of the district's elementary schools, beginning Feb. 27 or at the Tamaqua Area School District website - www.tamaqua.K12.pa.us. Appointments will then be scheduled for March.
Children residing within the Tamaqua Area School District who will reach the age of 5 before Sept. 1, 2012 are eligible to attend kindergarten classes.
To register, call (570) 668-3306 the week of Feb. 27, from 9:30-11:30 a.m., and from 1-3 p.m. to schedule an appointment.
Proof of residency, health records, original birth certificates and original Social Security cards will be required.
Children will be evaluated by a classroom teacher, nurse and speech therapist.
Polar plunge
Ryan Leckey from WNEP's Newswatch 16 This Morning, will make an appearance on behalf of the local Make A Wish Foundation's Polar Plunge. Leckey will broadcast from Deer Lake on Feb. 24, from 5 a.m. to 9 a.m.
The Polar Plunge will take place on Feb. 25, at noon, in the sure to be frigid waters of Deer Lake.
All proceeds from the event will be used to make wishes come true for some very special children.

St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, congregational council will meet at 7 p.m.; Thursday, joint meeting of worship/music and property committees at 5:30 p.m., Angel Choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., Shepherd Choir meets at 6:30 p.m., Chancel/Adult Choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m.
