Green challenge
"Helping Wildlife" is the theme for the 2012 Schuylkill County Green Challenge, open to students in kindergarten through eighth grade, in all county public and non-public schools. The challenge has been divided into two age group categories a poster competition for kindergarten through fourth grade, and an essay contest for fifth to eighth grade students.
There will be cash prizes for individual students and mini grants for the schools.

Trinity UCC
The Rev. Thomas Reinsel, interim pastor, will officiate at the 10 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Trinity United Church of Christ. Sunday school classes will meet at 8:45 a.m.

The Rev. Sunny Stock will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Church in the Lewistown Valley.

First Methodist
The Rev. James Cavallero will officiate at the 10:45 a.m. worship service this Sunday in First United Methodist Church. Children's Sunday school will be held during the service. Adult Sunday school will meet at 9:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, trustees meet at 6 p.m., administrative council meets at 7 p.m.; Tuesday, quilters meet at 9:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Ash Wednesday service at noon, chancel choir rehearsal is at 7 p.m.
During Lent, First Church will sponsor a series of character development workshops, beginning Feb. 26 at 7 p.m. Each session will be preceded by a pot luck supper at 6 p.m.
SS. Peter and Paul
Feb. 22, Ash Wednesday, marks the beginning of the Lenten season and the Rev. William Linkchorst of SS. Peter and Paul Catholic Church reminds Catholics of the special considerations for the Lenten season. Ash Wednesday is a day of fast and abstinence, while Fridays during Lent are days of abstinence. Good Friday will also be a day of fast and abstinence.
Ash Wednesday blessing and distribution of ashes will be held during the 8 a.m. Mass, as well as after the 7 p.m. Stations of the Cross. Stations will be held every Wednesday, at 7 p.m. and will be preceded by a holy hour of prayer, including a recitation of the Rosary, beginning at 6 p.m.
Choir rehearsals will be held following the Wednesday Stations of the Cross, beginning at approximately 7:30 p.m.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, learning ministries committee will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Wednesday, Ash Wednesday service, with Holy Communion, at 7 p.m.; Thursday, Angel Choir rehearsal at 6 p.m., Shepherd Choir meets at 6:30 p.m., Chancel/Adult Choir rehearses at 6:30 p.m.
Zion Lutheran
The Rev. Jeffrey Kistler will officiate at the 9:30 a.m. worship service this Sunday in Zion Evangelical Lutheran Church. The service will be followed by a social time of coffee and conversation.
Also on Sunday, the senior choir will rehearse at 11 a.m. and the Scouts will meet at 6 p.m.
