Meed's at a glance

The Meed's Methodist Church, 126 West Catawissa St., will have Ash Wednesday service tonight at 7 o'clock.

Senior Boxes will be distributed on Feb. 24 in the church from 10 a.m. to noon.

Movie night will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25 at 6 p.m. The movie to be viewed will be determined soon. The public is invited to attend.

The clothing store is open every Wednesday from 5:30-7 p.m. and gently-used clothing donations can be dropped off during that time.

Bible study is every Wednesday at 9:30 a.m.

A free community dinner will take place on Wednesday, Feb. 29 from 4-6 p.m. Please note the new time.

VFW Ladies Auxiliary

The regular monthly meeting of the Nesquehoning VFW Ladies Auxiliary was held Feb. 14 with President Amanda Breiner presiding.

Auxiliary commemorative coins have been received, thanking our veterans for their service.

A date in May will be set for the annual Buddy Poppy weekend at Redner's.

The annual Loyalty Day Program will be held on Tuesday, May 1 at 6 p.m., at the Post Home. The public is welcome to attend. The Voice of Democracy winners will also be presented with their awards at the ceremony.

A Miller Bloodmobile collection will be held at the post on Wednesday, May 7.

The District 20 Voice of Democracy Banquet will be held in Tobyhanna on March 24.

Members are asked to turn in their Gertrude Hawk sheets by Feb. 27. Delivery will be the week of March 19.

The annual Easter Egg Hunt will be held on Saturday, March 31, at 12 p.m. Children and grandchildren of all members may sign up at the Post Home. The deadline to sign up is March 24.

The next meeting will be held on Tuesday, March 13, 6:30 p.m. at the Post Home.

Special service

"Lectio Divina," literally translated means Divine Reading and is a term that refers to a way of reading and praying the Holy Scriptures.

On Sunday, March 4 at 6 p.m., the public is welcome to experience a "Lectio Divina" Holy Hour at St. Francis Church, Mill and Ratcliff streets in Nesquehoning. Come and spend this special time with the Lord Jesus, meditating on His Holy Word.

St. John Lutheran

Ash Wednesday service and Holy Communion will be held tonight at St. John the Evangelist Lutheran Church, 1 E. Abbott St., at 7 p.m.
