Weatherly student places in pin design competition
A Weatherly Area High School junior recently placed in a statewide pin design competition.
Devon Bizarre, 17, of Weatherly was named the second runner up in the PETE & C (Pennsylvania Education Technology Expo and Conference) Pin Contest on Feb. 15, during the PETE & C's annual conference in Hershey.
The winner of the pin design, which will be used as the annual commemorative pin for next year's conference, was Payton McCombs of Butler Area Vocational School District.
First runner up was Brandon Rupp of West Shamokin High School.
Bizarre's submission was one of over 100 entries received for the ninth annual contest, held by the Pennsylvania Association of School Business Officials.
Her design was chosen as one of six finalists in the state. For her efforts, she received a $125 gift card.
In addition to her artistic talents, Bizarre is a four-sport athlete at Weatherly, including soccer, cross country, basketball and softball.
She is also a member of the Weatherly High School band, chorus, and Student Government Association; and a participant in the Junior Leadership program for the Greater Hazleton area.
She also is working to help the Carbon County Area Agency on Aging by raising money for the annual Carbon County Senior Games, to be held in May.
Bizarre is the daughter of Cindy and Dean Bizarre of Weatherly.
