Palmerton's Nelson medals at States
On Saturday, Feb. 18th, Tre' Nelson a 15-year old from Palmerton, competed at the 2012 Pennsylvania High School Powerlifting Championships at Emmaus High school.
Nelson lifted in the 181 pound weight class and finished third overall. His lifts were a 405 pounds on the Squat, 235 pounds in the bench, and a 455 pound deadlift for a total of 1,095 pounds.
This was Nelson's first full powerlifting meet. Prior to this, he has done two bench and deadlift meets, taking home a first and second place. He also holds the USA Powerlifting American deadlift record of 413 pounds for the raw 198 pound competitors in the 14-15 age group. He has been lifting for just one year.
Nelson goes to Palmerton High School where he started on the varsity football team as a freshman this past year. He is the son of Michelle and Donald Nelson.
Nelson is trained by Rob Eckhart who is a World and National powerlifting champion. Nelson did most of his training at Jimmy's Gym and the Palmerton weight room.
Next up for Nelson will be the Jim Thorpe meet on April 15 and the Palmerton meet on April 29.
