Nolehi falls to ND
For the second straight game, Northern Lehigh had a tough time putting the ball in the basket and that kind of luck isn't going to win many games.
The Lady Bulldogs dropped another Colonial League contest, this time to Notre Dame of Green Pond, 42-37.
Strengthened by the efforts of point guard Lexi McGivern, the Crusaders went on a 17-4 run in the fourth quarter to break a 23-23 deadlock.
The crafty backcourt fixture, McGivern, had 15 of her team's 19 points in the final eight minutes and half of her team's points in the entire contest.
"(McGivern)'s a competitor," Notre Dame head coach Josh Kopp admitted afterwards. "She came out in the second half and wasn't going to be denied, it seemed.
"She got a couple of big steals and give her a lot of credit because she made things happen for us."
Northern Lehigh head coach Dave Oertner reiterated the importance of the big fourth frame run.
"We had some turnovers at the beginning of the fourth quarter," Oertner said. "We lost the lead and then we lost composure, I think."
The first half seemed slow and stagnant, with both teams struggling to hit their shots. Northern Lehigh eventually moved to a 15-11 lead at the intermission.
Aimee Oertner had 10 of the Bulldogs' points, while teammate Christina Bastardi had the other five.
In the third quarter, Notre Dame outscored the hosts 12-8 in the session to tie the game.
Oertner added six more in the third quarter. Tara Gorman and McGivern both had four in the third for the Crusaders.
The fourth frame was all about the Crusaders, as they built a 40-27 lead. However, a Bastardi lay-up was followed by a Shannon Weil trey, that cut the lead to eight.
Notre Dame, which improves to 8-4 overall and 6-2 in the Colonial League, was outrebounded 33-28 in the game, but committed 12 turnovers in the contest, compared to 19 by Northern Lehigh.
With the loss, the Bulldogs dropped to 7-6 overall and 4-4 in the CL.
Notre Dame made it a sweep with a 26-24 win in the JV game.
