Weatherly boys, girls get hoop wins

Marian, Northern Lehigh and Weatherly picked up boys basketball wins over the weekend, as did the Palmerton, Tamaqua and Weatherly girls.

Panther Valley also managed a victory on the mats.

BOYS BASKETBALL

Moravian Academy-Marian

The Colts outscored the Lions in every frame of action to pull out a 47-22 non-league win.

Ryan Karnish scored a game-high 12 points to lead the locals to the win, while Alden Whah added nine.

For Moravian, Chris Anderson and Luke Gutekunst both scored eight.

Marian also won the JV contest, 51-43.

Fleetwood-No. Lehigh

After falling behind 20-11 early in the second period, Northern Lehigh came from behind to down Fleetwood, 57-40.

NL (12-1) outscored the visitors by 11 in the second half, to win going away. They were led in scoring by Devin Glose, Lucas Pierce and Caleb Johnson, all with twelve points.

Frans Estima led Fleetwood with a game-high .

Nolehi also won the JV contest, 58-35.

Palmerton-No. Dame ES

The Blue Bombers led by as much as 11 points early in the contest, but the Spartans rallied and wound up with a 53-48 double overtime win.

Joe Luzzi hit five of seven free throws in the second overtime to help Notre Dame ice the game. He finished with a game-high 25 points. Tyrell Wright added 16 and Tirele Christen 10.

Tyler Svetik led the Bombers with 14, while Brett Snyder added 12 and Cody Geist 10 for Palmerton (1-11).

The Blue Bombers salvaged a split with a 49-9 win in the JV game. Logan Lesher led Palmerton with 11 and Ty Achterman added nine.

The Wreckers held Northumberland Christian to just four points in the third quarter and took a 45-33 victory in a non-league game.

Brett Stallone led Weatherly with a career-high 12 points, while Josh Reiner added 11 and Samson Walton 10.

Weatherly also won the JV game by a 62-44 score.

Palmerton-Moravian Academy

The Lady Bombers jumped out to a 22-point halftime lead and cruised to a 52-26 non-league win over Moravian Academy.

Kelsey Hay led the Bombers with 16 points, while Morgan Mummey added 12 and Genia Farquhar 11.

Hanna Ruebeck was the Lions top scorer with eight.

The Lady Wreckers opened up a 18-point lead by halftime and never looked back in picking up a 61-33 win over MMI Prep.

Alicia Panzarella scored a game-high 22 points for Weatherly, while Jaime Dougherty added 12.

Weatherly won the JV game for the sweep by a 52-10 score.

The Lady Raiders knocked off Nativity, 37-26 for their fifth straight win.

Amanda Solt's 14 points and 12 from Maria Streisel led Tamaqua (7-5) in scoring.

Solt also had eight rebounds, but Kayla Hope led the team with 10 boards.

Tamaqua also won the JV contest, 49-46, with Paige Demetriades scoring 17 points and Vanessa Solt scored 16.
