Senior citizens
The Tamaqua Seniors met Jan. 12 at the Tamaqua Community Center with 86 members in attendance. One new member, Grace Moser, was welcomed.
President Jean Machamer conducted the business session and offered an inspirational reading. Rose Vallee provided the invocation, entitled "Morning Blessing." Reports were offered by vice president Nancy Gerber and secretary Joan Anne Garber.
Betty Connely was added to the sick list and Betty Springer was hospitalized. A card of thanks was received from Joan Deitrich.
Jayne Myers was congratulated on celebrating her 98th birthday on Jan. 8
The group meets every Thursday, at 1 p.m., at the community center. Anyone 55 or older is welcome to join. The center is handicap accessible.
WP softball
Registration for West Penn Girls Softball will be held Feb. 4 and Feb. 11, 9 a.m. to noon, at the West Penn Township Municipal Building. The league is open to girls between the ages of 4 and 14.
First time players must provide their birth certificates.

Men's fraternity
A new Men's Fraternity group is being formed in Tamaqua to provide men with the opportunity and knowledge to live their lives modeled on the teachings of Jesus Christ, directed by the Word of God. Meetings will begin at 6:30 p.m., on Feb. 9, and then be held on the next 11 consecutive Thursdays.
Meetings will be held in the conference room at Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church, 223 E. Broad St.

SWNC
The South Ward Neighborhood Committee will meet Thursday, at 7 p.m., at the South Ward Community Center, located at the South Ward Playground. Plans for the upcoming year will be discussed.
Anyone interested in improving the South Ward is welcome to attend.
St. John Lutheran
The Rev. Phyllis Wolford will officiate at the 9:15 a.m. worship service this Sunday in St. John Evangelical Lutheran Church. Sunday school and Confirmation classes will meet at 10:30 a.m.
Activities for next week include: Monday, stewardship committee will meet at 6:30 p.m.; Thursday, Shepherd Choir meets at 6:30 p.m.
Bethany EC
The Rev. Kevin Roberts will officiate at the 8 a.m. traditional and 10:30 a.m. contemporary worship services this Sunday in Bethany Evangelical Congregational Church. Nursery care and primary church are provided at the later service. Sunday school classes will be held at 9:30 a.m.
Also on Sunday, the annual congregational meeting will be held at 11:45 a.m. and the Courageous Movie Event will begin at 6:30 p.m.
Activities for next week will include: Tuesday, Prayer time at 8:30 a.m.; Wednesday, Tamaqua Youth Ministry meets at 6:30 p.m.; Saturday, musician rehearsal at 9 a.m., Praise practice at 9:30 a.m., Beat the Blues social event will begin at 6 p.m.
A new GriefShare program, designed to assist those who have suffered the loss of a loved one, will begin at 7 p.m., on Feb. 8.
