Black ice blamed for Schuylkill crash

Black ice was blamed for a one-vehicle crash that occurred in Schuylkill County. State police at Frackville said the accident occurred along Darkwater Road, a mile west of SR61, in New Castle Township, about 7:10 a.m. on Tuesday, Jan. 24.

Troopers said Sarah Newton, 32, of Minersville, was driving a 2009 Chevrolet Malibu westbound when she encountered the icy conditions which caused her to lose control.

The car went onto the right berm and struck a tree. Newton complained of neck and back pain and was transported to the Schuylkill Medical Center-S. Jackson St., Pottsville. Damages were termed heavy to the vehicle.
