No. Valley falls to Fullerton

Northern Valley dropped into the Lehigh Valley Legion loser's bracket Thursday after losing its suspended game against Fullerton.

Northern Valley lost 7-6 in a game that was suspended on Wednesday.

Fullerton and the Chargers played to a 6-6 tie through seven innings in the first round of the Lehigh Valley Legion playoffs. The game was suspended due to darkness and resumed yesterday.

After No. 6 seed Northern Valley failed to score in the top of the eighth, No. 3 seed Fullerton loaded the bases before the Chargers walked in the winning run.

Northern Valley hosts South Parkland in an elimination game today at Northwetsern High School at 5:45 p.m.

District 4 Babe Ruth 15 Tournament

Franklin Township, by virtue of three wins in the Babe Ruth Tournament being held at West Hazleton, finds itself as the only team without a loss.

In its first game, Franklin handed Wyoming Valley a 13-2 setback.

Shane Snisky was the winning pitcher with five strikeouts. Jordan Knappenberger had a triple and two RBI, Nate DeKorte had two singles and two RBI and Mitch Peters slammed a triple.

Franklin rolled to a 13-2 win over Valley East in its second game as Peters had a base hit, two RBI and was also the winning pitcher.

Craig Serfass was two-for-three with four RBI and Zach Kamonski had two hits.

Franklin then took care of Blue Valley, 6-4 as Will Kovalenko had two hits, Don Pompa doubled and drove in two runs and Peters had a triple and RBI.

Franklin now awaits the winner of tonight's Valley West-Blue Valley for a 1 p.m. game on Saturday. Tonight's winner would have to beat Franklin twice to win the championship.

District 4 Babe Ruth 14 Tournament

With three straight wins, Franklin Township finds itself waiting for the loser's bracket finalist to see who it will play in the Babe Ruth 14 championship on Saturday.

Franklin managed 18 hits in a 26-4 win over Towamensing Township in the opener using a 14-run second inning to pull away.

Jordan McElmoyle was 3-for-3 with two walks, K.J. Snerr was 5-for-5 with two doubles and three singles, Wyatt Clements was 4-for-4 with a triple, Ben Cordova had a single and a double and Brady Niehoff had three singles and was the winning pitcher for Franklin.

Franklin also won by the 10-run rule against Pottsville, 15-1.

Snerr was the winning pitcher, allowing just two hits. He also was 3-for-3 with a triple and two singles. McElmoyle had a double and two singles, Clements walked twice and singled and Cordova had a double.

A 5-2 win over defending state champ Blue Valley lifted Franklin into Saturday's round.

Clements went the distance for the win and also singled and walked. Niehoff drove in two runs, but Austin Lilly made a diving catch on his knees with two outs to keep Blue Valley from scoring more runs in the sixth inning to end the game.

Franklin will play the Blue Valley-Hazleton winner on Saturday at Christman's Field in Franklin at noon. If Franklin wins, it is the champion, if it loses, another game will be played at 3 p.m. for the title.

LITTLE LEAGUE

Tamaqua-Valley East

Matthew Gazdick had a good day on the mound and at the plate to help Tamaqua gain an 8-2 win over Valley East in the winner's bracket final.

Tamaqua will now play the winner of Valley East and Franklin Township on Saturday at 2 p.m. A win would clinch the championship while a loss would force another game on Sunday.

Gazdick earned the pitching victory with a complete game. At the plate, he collected two hits and knocked in three runs.

The winners also received three hits from Nate Boyle, while Nick Briener chipped in with a pair of hits.

Jim Thorpe-

Franklin Township

Jim Thorpe beat Franklin Township 13-6 in a game played earlier in the tournament.

Trevor Hickey had three hits, scored three runs and was the winning pitcher.

AJ Pompa had three hits, including two doubles. Aaaron Lienhard had three hits. Zach Searfoss had two hits and two runs scored. Nate Saxe and Nate DeMarco each had two hits.

For Franklin Township, Isaiah Everett had a pair of hits.

Jim Thorpe-Freeland

Jim Thorpe beat Freeland 14-10 in a game played earlier in the tournament.

Aaron Lienhard had three hits and two runs scored for Jim Thorpe. Nate DeMarco had two hits and two runs scored, while pitching the win. Trevor Hickey and Carter Wolfe had two hits each. Nate Saxe came on in relief for the save.

9-10 TOURNAMENT

Tamaqua Blue-

Towamensing

Tamaqua Blue improved to 3-0 in the tournament by posting a 16-9 win over Towamensing.

Carson Barron had four hits, including two doubles and a triple, and knocked in three runs. Emily Titus had two hits and six RBI while Michael Minchoff added two hits and scored five runs. The winners also received a triple and two RBI from Luke Van Buskirk.

Minchoff earned the pitching win, tossing three innings.

For Towamensing, Blake Eitner had two hits, one a triple. Ethan Recker, Bryce Yacone and Colby Kunkle all finished with two hits apiece.
