Sending the wrong message

Published July 21. 2012 10:55AM

Dear Editor:

Hearing the report from the (Penn State) investigation by a former FBI agent concluded that all were involved.

It is their view that more could have been done to prevent the abuse of children by Sandusky. Again their view. I believe the Board of Trustees had paid millions to this agent for an independent investigation. The report is a view that more could have been done and does not in any way adjudicate guilt.

I do not believe that Mr. Paterno is accountable. He reported what he heard. Mr. Paterno for so many years focused on discipline and academics. Removing the statue of Joe at Penn State is sending the wrong message about our justice system - innocent until proven guilty.

However, in the light of continuing legal matters and if there was an independent investigation by the Paterno family and it concluded that the Board of Trustees knew of abuse, would they remove themselves as Trustees? I'm focusing on Coach O'Brien, who has impeccable records and will do a great job at coaching and discipline at Penn State.

Sincerely,

Larry Consoli
