Graduates summa cum laude from Bloomsburg

Brandon Dunbar, Jim Thorpe, recently graduated summa cum laude during Bloomsburg University's Commencement Ceremony, with a bachelor of science degree in biology, with a minor in chemistry and an emphasis on pre-med.

Having received a four-year full tuition scholarship through the Board of Governors Scholarship Program, Dunbar attained dean's list each semester, graduating with a 3.99 GPA.

He was recognized as a member of Who's Who Among Students in American Universities and Colleges and was the recipient of the prestigious Margaret Till Physiology Award. He completed his senior honors thesis on the effort of composted materials on the incidence of Pythium root rot disease.

While at Bloomsburg he was inducted into Beta Beta Beta, the biological honor society, where he served as treasurer his senior year. He was also inducted into Phi Kappa Phi, the interdisciplinary honor society. He was also selected as a microbiology lab aide his junior and senior years, as well as a four-year member of the Honors Program, the pre-med club and Developing Ambitions Student Leaders.

The valedictorian of the Jim Thorpe High School class of 2008, Dunbar has been accepted into the doctor of Optometry program at Salus University and will begin his studies this August. Having earned his real estate license three years ago, he is employed by Mary Enck Realty of Albrightsville and is the son of Ronald and Jean Dunbar from the heights section of Jim Thorpe.
