Zion Seniors

The Senior Citizen's Group at Zion Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville, will meet at 11 a.m., Thursday, June 14.

Participants are reminded to pack a sandwich. Beverages are provided.

Free dog program

West End Park & Open Space Commission will present a free dog training program at the Chestnuthill Park, Route 715, Brodheadsville, from 10 a.m. until noon, Saturday, June 16.

Debra Galan-Parsons will review AKC's training lessons, including the "Canine Good Citizen Program." Leashed dogs welcome.

Lion of the Year

The Western Pocono Lions Club will meet Wednesday, June 20 at the American Legion Post, Gilbert, for its annual celebration for Lions and their families and friends. The club's Lion of the Year will be recognized.

District Governor Scott Dudley will be present to install the officers for the 2012-2013 Lions' year. Social time begins at 6:30 p.m. with the dinner meeting starting at 7 p.m.

Visitors are welcome. Dinners will be ordered from the menu.

Rotary speaker

Art Piancone, from Pocono Alliance, will be the featured speaker at the Thursday, June 14, West End Rotary Club meeting. The club meets at 7:30 a.m. at the Western Pocono Community Library.

Terrific tea

Over 65 women enjoyed the afternoon tea recently hosted by Effort UMC Methodist Women.

Although the Rev. Robin Fisher will continue as pastor at Effort UMC, she and her husband, also a pastor, will move.

His call has changed so he will be leaving Reeders UMC to serve another congregation which has its own parsonage whereas Effort UMC does not.

Effort UMC will once again offer a contemporary worship service on the third Sunday of the month. The next service will take place at 9:45 a.m. on June 17.

PV School Board

The Pleasant Valley School District Board of Education will meet at 8 p.m. Thursday at the district office in Brodheadsville.

Historical society

Chestnuthill Township Historical Society will meet at 7 p.m., Wednesday, June 20, at the township's park building on Route 715 in Brodheadsville.

The township will be 250 years old next year.

Food pantry aid

The Effort UMC Supplemental Family Resource Center will collect food items at Kinsley's ShopRite from 1-5 p.m., Thursday, June 28 and Friday, June 29.

GASP meets

The German American Society of the Poconos will meet at 2 p.m., Monday, June 18, at the Elks' Lodge in East Stroudsburg.

VBS at Zion

Vacation Bible School will be held from 9:30 a.m. to noon, Monday through Friday, June 18-22, at Zion Lutheran Church.

Effort UMC recognized graduates within the congregation.
