Helping others
The Western Pocono Lions Club has donated over $4,000 during this fiscal year. Entities receiving financial aid are: Feed the Hungry, Salvation Army, Garden of Giving, Lions Clubs International Foundation, scholarships to local youth, Beacon Lodge, a campership to Beacon Lodge to an individual with sight-related problems, and the Northeast Eye bank.
In addition to financial support, the group gives hands-on help to the community.
At the June 20 meeting being held at the American Legion Post Home in Gilbert, the club President's choice of Lion of the Year will be recognized. That honor is based on service by the individual.
Participation in this meeting is by reservation only. At other times, guests and visitors are welcome.

Altar & Rosary
The Altar & Rosary Society of Our Lady Queen of Peace will hold a Mom and Daughter Pot Luck Supper this evening at 6:30.
Participants are asked to bring a favorite dish or dessert. Members' mothers and daughters are invited.

West End Rotary
Nicole Ford will be the breakfast speaker at the West End Rotary Club meeting at 7:30 a.m., Thursday, June 21. Her presentation will be about therapy dogs.

VBS Program
Vacation Bible School is under way at Zion United Lutheran Church, Brodheadsville. A wrap-up program for attendees and families will be held at 6:30 p.m., Friday. The theme is: Operation Overboard. Sharon Heller is the director.
Vacation Bible School is coming to other Chestnuthill churches including: June 27-29, 6:30-8 p.m., at Countryside Alliance Church, with the Good News Puppets; McMichaels UMC, July 16-20, from 6:30-8:15 p.m.; Effort UMC, July 30 through Aug. 3.

Monroe Seniors
Wednesdays and Fridays are the designated meeting times for the Monroe County Seniors who meet for fun, fellowship and food at Zion Lutheran Church under the auspices of Monroe County Area Agency on Aging.
The group gathers as early as 9 a.m. and often has special speakers or activities scheduled as well as the lunch that is shared.

On Wednesday, June 27, the vouchers for the Senior Farmer's Market Nutrition Program (SFMNP) for $20 will be offered at the Chestnuthill Center to eligible Monroe seniors.
Those vouchers provide $20 for seniors and are meant to encourage seniors to buy and use more fruits and vegetables from local growers at area farmer's markets.

The next meeting of the Zion Lutheran's Knit & Crochet Group will be 1 p.m., Tuesday, June 26.

Lioness Club
The Western Pocono Lioness will have its monthly meeting at 6 p.m., June 26 at the American Legion on Route 209, Gilbert. The opening social hour will be followed by guest speakers from Women's Resources and an Eagle Scout candidate. Guests are welcome.
The Lioness Club contributes to many worthy groups, such as the N.E. PA Lions Eye Bank, scholarships, youth leadership camp, food pantries and more. The club also sponsors many interesting activities for the area. Upcoming is the club's free Patriotic Coloring Contest to be held at the Chestnuthill Park from 10 a.m. to 1 p.m., June 30.

Tomato fun
On Aug. 5 St. Peter's UMC will host its annual church picnic and a vegetable competition, with a focus on tomatoes. Competition categories will include heaviest, largest circumference, most unusually shaped, etc.
Garden of Giving
The board of directors for the Garden of Giving will meet at 7 p.m., Monday, July 2, at the garden site in McMichaels.
