Palmerton sports briefs

Palmerton Area School Board on Tuesday unanimously approved the following extracurricular positions, pending contract negotiations, for the 2012-13 school year:

- Ralph Andrews, assistant girls' basketball coach

- Robert Eckhart, assistant football coach

- Alex Knoll, tennis coach

- Michael Gombert, head track coach

- Mark Weiss, head girls' soccer coach

- Alyssa Minnich, volunteer girls' basketball, volunteer

The board also approved, on a 6-2 vote, with one abstention, the following extracurricular position, pending contract negotiations, for the 2012-13 school year:

- Glenn Reimer, head softball coach. Directors Susan Debski and board President Barry Scherer voted against Reimer's hiring, while Director Darlene Yeakel abstained.

The board also unanimously approved the following resignations, effective immediately:

- Thomas Smelas, head baseball coach, as per his request

- Anthony Thomas, assistant girls' basketball coach, as per his request
