June 22, 1987 Bill Zahora takes over as Marian girls head basketball coach after longtime mentor Elsie Tola retires the position and becomes the head coach at Immaculate Heart Academy High School in New Jersey. Prior to gaining the Fillies' job, Zahora was the head coach of the Jim Thorpe girls for five years and then was an assistant boys coach at Panther Valley and Marian. Tolan, meanwhile, leaves Marian after posting a 496-85 record over 21 years.
